We are fast heading towards Christmas and I can’t help but look forward to the excitement provided by the Puissance competition, which takes place at the annual London International Horse Show at Olympia.

Puissance (aka “the big red wall”) is basically high jump for horses.  The Puissance wall increases in height with each round and if a horse knocks the jump down or refuses then they are out.  The highest jumping competitor wins.

The art of Puissance, as well as the Christmas show at Olympia, features heavily in my novel ‘Feels Just Like Starting Over.’

This year, Olympia’s Puissance competition will take place on Wednesday 18th December and I will be watching.  My only regret is that my fictional showjumping characters, Daniel Lawson and Tom Williams, won’t actually be competing in it!  I can’t help feeling that the world would be a much more exciting place, if those two men didn’t only exist within the pages of a book!
