My little corner of England is due to reach temperatures of forty degrees (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in the next few days, so it seems obvious that I should turn my attention today to writing my 2022 Christmas Novella, The Naughty List!
What better way to spend the day than fantasising about snowball fights, toboggan rides and cuddles under the Christmas tree, as I slowly wilt in the garden!

I feel your heat, Fenella. Suggestions: around your neck, wrap a cold wet thin dishcloth that you just pulled out of the fridge. Sit near a fan so the trickling water evaporates on your skin. Keep several cloths on the go in the fridge. Replace with a cold fresh one as soon as the current one stops being refreshing. Take tepid showers, not icy cold ones. Hydrate a LOT. I learned all these tricks growing up in countries that had no air con. In Paraguay, it hit 120 F one summer! My gran grew up pre-air con and refused to use hers, ever. (She was in North Carolina and with the humidity, it was brutal.) I learned these tricks from her. Best of luck!

Excellent tips, Karen – thanks so much! Yes, in the UK we don’t tend to have air con in homes so these sorts of temperatures always come as a bit of a shock to the system!!!
