Building Anticipation

I’m thrilled by the below Amazon review for ‘Wolf Moon’, and not just because it has 5 stars! This reader really gets what I’m trying to achieve. As a rule, I personally hate it when authors write books which end on such a cliffhanger that you *have* to purchase the next instalment to discover what happens, simply because so many plot strands have been left unanswered. As a rule, even in the series I write (e.g. ‘Daniel Lawson’ or ‘To Love, Honour and Oh Pay’), I try to make each book as standalone as possible, picking up the characters in the next instalment, and providing them with a new set of challenges.

However, the Canis Hall series (of which Wolf Moon is book 1) has been well plotted in advance, to tell the story of a couple over the course of a single year. One novella will be released on each of the 12 full moons during 2022. Therefore, by the very nature of the story, I can’t help but leave a number of plot threads hanging, as I transfer from one book to the next. By December, all questions will be fully answered, but until then, my readers will need to be prepared to buckle in and enjoy the ride!

Alison gets this. Hooray for Alison! 🙂
